We will be running a number of taster sessions to give an insight into a potential career as a firefighter.
These sessions are aimed at people who have no experience of the firefighter role, to support our next wholetime recruitment campaign launching in the spring.
The sessions will offer an opportunity to have a go at some role-related activities and provide information about the many aspects of a modern firefighter’s role. Firefighting isn’t just about fighting fires. As well as the varied incidents you could attend such as road traffic collisions and floods, you are just as likely to be carrying out a home safety visit, talking to the community about fire safety or working with our partners to support a campaign. There will be a number of our current firefighters at each session, who will be happy to answer questions and offer advice.
We particularly welcome individuals from groups that are currently under represented in our Service. At present, this includes women and people from ethnic minority backgrounds. Therefore, although the sessions are open to all and we will aim to accommodate all requests, if places do become over-subscribed, we will give priority to individuals from these groups.
We would love you to attend one of our taster sessions. To book a place, please complete our Firefighter Taster Session booking form (opens in WM Jobs), indicating which session you would like to attend. Please don’t register to attend if you’ve already attended a session in January.
If you are unable to attend the taster sessions, but you’d like us to send you information about fitness preparation for the physical aspects of the selection process, please follow the link to the registration form and select the appropriate box.
The taster sessions are running as follows:-
Malvern Fire Station
Saturday 25 February 2023: 9.45 am – 12.45 pm
Saturday 25 February 2023: 1.45 pm – 4.45 pm
Please note that our Service is committed to facilitating inclusive recruitment processes. All applicants go through the same selection processes and selection is based on performance, skills and merit.
You do not need to attend a session in order to apply for the wholetime firefighter role.
