To celebrate Volunteers’ Week, we are sharing some posts about a few of our amazing Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service Volunteers.
Our HWFRS Volunteers are essential to making links within the community and delivering vital Fire Safety Information.
Next up is Chris.
We thought we would tell you more about Chris and what has led him to volunteer for HWFRS.
Chris has volunteered with us now for 4 years and has recently taken on the role of Volunteer Rep which involves being the main representative for the Volunteers to voice concerns and feedback, an essential part of helping support them in their roles.
Below, Chris shares his experiences of volunteering for HWRS.
He said: “When I retired I looked for part-time voluntary roles that would keep me mentally active and enable me to continue interacting with a wide variety of people of all ages and backgrounds.
“I became a Community Safety Volunteer 4 years ago and support Herefordshire & Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service at public events, specific events aimed at improving young children’s and teenage drivers’ fire and safety awareness and in role play as a casualty during the Fire & Rescue Service’s drills and exercises.
“I also travel around the two counties giving free Fire Safety Talks to groups of people, promoting fire safety and encouraging those people to take up the Fire & Rescue Service’s offer of free Home Fire Safety Visits.”
