A group of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service firefighters, family and friends are heading for the hills to raise cash for their key charity.
The 12-strong party will be hiking the nine-mile end-to-end route of the Malvern Hills to support the Fire Fighters Charity on 16 November.
And, just to add a little spice to their challenge, group members will be wearing firefighters’ PPE of leggings and tunic with some wearing a breathing apparatus set, too.
While the route enjoys many beautiful views, it also incorporates many steep inclines with its peak elevation being around 1400ft.
The walk is part of HWFRS’s ‘Fifty for Fifty’ campaign which aims to raise £50,000 to mark 50 years since the service was formed in 1974 by the amalgamation of the County of Hereford Fire Brigade and the Worcester City & County Fire Brigade.
“The Fire Fighters Charity is there when we need it most,” said the event organiser Tom Brooks-Simon, who is a firefighter in Ledbury.
“They provide support to fire service staff for all eventualities, whether it be those suffering from mental health to physical injuries.
“They also support the direct families of fire service personnel at no cost to the recipient.
“We would really appreciate donations – you never know when you may require the fire service and the fire service never know when they may require the charity.”
