Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 please can I request information about:

How many animals/pets the Hereford & Worcester fire service has rescued in the last five years.

Please can you include a breakdown of the figures for each year of the last five years, starting from Jan 2018 to date.

Can you detail (where possible):

What the animal was

What date the animal was stuck

Where it was stuck

How long it was stuck for

How long it took for you to save the animal

How many crew members were involved?

Thank you for your request for incident information which has been received by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (the Service) and considered under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.

The Service can confirm the requested incident information is held partially. Please find the incident summary file attached; the period used for this analysis was from the 01/01/2018 to the 23/06/2023. In response to your questions, then:

  • What the animal was – This information was provided. Please note that three groups are used, i.e., domestic, livestock and wild.
  • What date the animal was stuck – This information was provided.
  • Where it was stuck – This information was provided.
  • How long it was stuck for – This information is not recorded.
  • How long it took for you to save the animal – The total time of the incident was provided: from the time of call to the incident closure.
  • How many crew members were involved? – The total number of crew was provided.

The incident report is not intended to be a line by line account of the incident but a report collated for statistical purposes produced for the Home Office detailing our attendance and initial impressions by the officer in charge. Details of the Incident Commander’s initial impressions are selected from a limited range of options available, which may or may not cover the exact circumstances of each case. This information is included within the report but it should be noted that the information is not based on a detailed investigation and should not be relied upon as evidence.
