178 06 24 – Hereford Fire Station Archaeological Survey (July 2024)

19/07/24

Request

Dear Sir/Madam

Among the conditions that were attached to the planning approval for the new Fire Station to be built on the St Owen Street Site- Hereford was a requirement to provide an archaeological survey of the site and its surroundings.

1. Has the said Archaeological Survey been carried out already?

2. If it has not, when is it due to be carried out?

3. If the Archaeological Survey has in fact been carried out, please send me a copy of the full archaeological survey.

This request for information is made under both the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Yours Faithfully

Response

Good Morning

We thank you for your request for information, which has been received by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (the Service) and considered under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000 and we apologise for the slight delay in responding to you.

The Service can confirm that Archaeological consultants have been appointed and were appointed via the tender process.

As part of the New Build project, we did have an archaeological survey of the station carried out by ECUS.

ECUS were in consultation with the LPA Archaeologist, the report has been completed and approved by the LPA Archaeologist and will be on the planning portal over the next few months, as part of the discharge of conditions process

The Historical Building Report (HBR) has been completed, however the Watching Brief remains outstanding.  I believe they were waiting for a programme from us for the demolition and construction works, to which we have been unable to provide at present, due to the temporary relocation programme yet to be confirmed.
