Following the recent Hereford and Worcester Award Ceremonies, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has presented the four recipients with framed photographs as a memento of their ‘Chief Fire Officer’s Employers Awards’.
Each employer acknowledged their pride in being nominated and subsequently receiving their award and this memento will be prominently displayed within each of their businesses as a reminder of our thank you for their continued support.
When asked why they continue to release their staff to work as On-Call Firefighters, they stated that they gain enormous reciprocal benefits.
The main feedback is that employees become real team players.
They are highly trained in Health and Safety, Risk Assessment and Trauma care and some crew will be trained as LGV drivers. They are more dedicated to their company and employers, because they feel valued and appreciated by being allowed to do this role alongside their primary job.
Our On-Call staff tend to be methodical, reliable, quick thinking, organised and good communicators.
The nature of the job means being dynamic; it helps people to think on their feet and drive situations forward in a positive way.
They also tend to be very calm with common-sense attitudes. They’re not afraid of hard work, responsibility, using their initiative, and taking a leadership role.
They actively work individually or part of a highly skilled team. These skills are transferable to their primary jobs, with all the tangible benefits attached.
It also makes good business sense to show your community that you care, by employing local people who are prepared to give back to others and can help businesses to demonstrate their Corporate Social Responsibilities. It also genuinely helps bond people to their local community and employers.
